Veteran Liberian journalist and publisher of one Liberia’s fearless and reputable newspaper, the New D
emocrat, Tom Kamara died this morning in Brussel after a sudden collapse at Brussel airport on Monday.
The Liberian Consul General in Brussel, Paul Tate in an interview confirming Mr Kamara’s death, said the veteran journalist on en route to Holland suddenly collapsed at the Brussel and was rushed to nearby St. Luc Hospital.
The Consul General disclosed that Mr. Kamara went into coma and received a stroke leaving one of his sides paralyzed but did not recover from the coma and was pronounced dead today.
The Liberian Embassy said Mr. Kamara was traveling along with his wife at the time of his incident and death and at present she is at the St. Luc Hospital looking after her beloved husband. Official cause of death of the prolific Liberian journalist has not yet been released but the Liberian embassy in Brussel said Liberian Vice President Jospeh Boakai, Minister Koffi Woods and host of other government officials and prominent Liberians have contacted the embassy to confirm the journalist’s death news and convey their condolences.
The Liberian Embassy through its Consul General said arrangements are been made to fly the body of the late journalist back to Liberia by next week.
The New Dispensation joins all publishers, journalists, and Liberians to convey icondolence to Mrs. Kamara, children, family, and Liberian press for the death of one of Africa’s profound journalists whose void the press in Liberia will find impossible to fill. May his soul rest in peace.
