Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., speaks in Paterson, N.J., on Feb. 15, 2013. The liberal Democrat died early June 3 at the age of 89, his office said.
The oldest serving member of the United States Senate, Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey died at the age of 89 years. The death of the New Jersey Senate will erode edge of the Democratic Party leadership in the senate to 54 members because it is likely that the Governor of New Jersey, Christ Christie, a Republican will appoint  Republican to his Seat until a special election. He was also the longest serving Senator from the State of New Jersey.

The late Senator Lautenberg was successful businessman who took a little know parole, ADP to one of the two biggest  billion dollars parole companies in the United States. He joined the Senate in 1989 and retired later but returned to the Senate in 2002. Senator Lautenberg’s death closes the curtain of veterans of world war II serving in the United States Senate.

Senator Frank Lautenberg service in the United States Senate is cognizant of legislations on smoking,  gun control, and transportation.

Mayor Corey Borker, a democrat had expressed his interest to run for the late Senate sear after he announced this year that he won’t  seek re-election and the Newark Governor could properly  be going to the United States Senate if the special election is held few months to come in accordance to New Jersey law.

It would be a political shock if the Republican Governor appoints the  Corey Borker , a popular Newark Mayor and also a friend to  Governor Christie but a democrat.
