Henry Costa, the tough and provocative Liberian talkshow host has been arrested in Monrovia, the Liberian capital to on charges of ” Terroristic and Criminal Coercion”, just few days shy of opening his own radio station on Monday.
According to the writ of arrest from the Monrovia City Court, the talkshow host was arrested today and appeared before it on complaint filed by the country’s National Security Agency Chief, Fumbah Sirleaf, son of the country President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf for what his complaint alleges “Terroristic and Criminal Coercion” against him by the talkshow host.
Mr. Costa on February 26, 2014 was unceremoniously cut off his regular broadcast by his former employer, Hot FM, citing demand from the security chief that management took him of the air for having what broadcast which the security chief deemed on attack on him.
The talkshow host was relieved by his employer but he ventured into owning his own radio station to continue the “The Costa Show”, which spanned a very wide audience and is the country’s hottest talkshow and was three days shy from opening his own radio station on Monday to continue his show which spanned a very wide audience and is the country’s most popular talkshow.
Minister Sirleaf has frown on the talkshow host utterances on air which considered attacks on him and the talkshow host too had heated exchanges, challenging him to a duo.
This latest action by the country’s security chief resonates with similar action President Sirleaf threatened to use recently when she threatened through her Lawyer to take a Liberian newspaper, the Chronicle newspaper to court for what she viewed as publication of wrong information against her government though the management of the newspaper defended their publication insisting their publication was quoting a United Nations report.
