Following news reports that the man believed to be Liberia’s richest man, Benoni Urey could not travel to the United States because he was placed on U. S. Treasury Department’s “Specially Designated Individual’ list, though he was taken from the United Nations travel ban list early this year, it appears the former arms dealer and partner of the internationally acclaimed ‘merchant of death’, Viktor Bout, the Russian arms dealer has dotted all his I’s and
crossed hit T’s and will be issued visa today to travel to the United States this week.
According to information coming from friends of the confidante of war crime convict Charles Taylor and corroborated, all is set and Mr Urey will be issued visa by the United States Embassy in Monrovia this morning and would be in the United States by this weekend.
Mr Urey is the former Liberian maritime chief and is reported to be the custodian of war crime convict Charles Taylor stolen wealth from Liberia and hidden in several complex scheme of investment worth hundreds of millions of dollars scattered around the world.
The former maritime chief has declared his intention to become president of Liberia and has joined the country’s largest opposition party, the Congress for Democratic Change.
A reported by the Coalition for International Justice, a non profit institution which supports the work the international war crime tribunal named Mr Urey of partnering with the Russian arm dealer who is now serving 25 years in United States prison for gun running around the world. According to the CIJ’s reported issued in 2009, Mr. Urey along with Viktor Bout broke the United Nations arms embargo placed on Liberia when Taylor was President.
The report further found that Mr Urey was also involved in other criminal activities including selling carrying another Viktor Bout’s partner, an arm into Liberia and made him Deputy Commissioner for Maritime with Liberian diplomatic passport to shield his gun running.
Below are excerpts of the Coalition for International Justice:
Excerpts from the CIJ report, the former maritime executive ‘Urey continues to direct Taylor enterprises such as Lone Star Communications, a primary generator of cash for Taylor in Nigeria. According to a source with direct knowledge of Liberian telecommunications, Lone Star Communications generated about $36 million a year in revenue of which one-third, $12 million, was Taylor’s share.
Such revenue figures appear high for a nation of 4 million people. But it is important to note that Liberia has no functioning, land-based telephone system. Therefore, all telecommunications within Liberia, as well as long-distance calls, are made on cellular telephones with the exception of a very small group of people that have access to satellite’.
The Coalitional of International Justice, a nonprofit institution supports the work of the International Criminal Court revealed that ‘Urey continues to direct Taylor enterprises such as Lone Star Communications, a primary generator of cash for Taylor when he was in Nigeria and Lone Star Communications generated about $36 million a year in revenue of which one-third, $12 million, was Taylor’s share’. extremely high revenue high for a nation of 4 million people’s’.
“CIJ’s report uncovered an elaborate syndicate network of criminals, ranging from terrorists from Israel, Afghanistan, Iran, Hezbollah, and Mujahedeen into Liberia including long”.
With this depth and breathe of the criminal ring Mr. Urey ran, it is unthinkable that he will take the greatest risk his of life, to brace the gravity of the United States justice system in the face of the criminal ring he ran of which the United States became victim too and would have the confidence that he come to the United States and walk free as he is doing in Liberia while his former partner, Viktor Bout is serving 25 years in federal for gun running.
