A local Liberian Radio Monrovia, according to our reporter, is announcing this morning that Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has parted ways with the Unity Party whose platform she rode to power and joins the opposition Liberty Party.
President Sirleaf crossover to the opposition Liberty has officially unveiled what had been a speculation for a longtime that she opposes her Vice President, Joseph Boakai who is contesting for President in the country’s 2017 election.
The Liberian leader crossover to the opposition Liberty Party is the second time crossing over to another party- she left her mother party, Liberian Action Party (LAP) in 1997 and joined the Unity Party to contest for the Presidency but lose to Charles Taylor.
President Sirleaf’s crossover to the Liberty Party demonstrates that she is not supporting her Vice President in the election but would instead support a Liberian lawyer Charles Brumskine who will be standard bearer of the Liberty Party.
A possible chaos will inevitably unfold with this latest move by President Sirleaf as this is an open and public confrontation and conflict existing between the President and her Vice President- a very unprecedented development in politics, especially not supporting a Vice President who served her diligently for the 11 years .
