Liberia goes to the polls on October 10, 2017 to elect a president to take the helm power as President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf second term limit ends in January 2018.
There are 22 Presidential candidates vying for the Presidency and the first of series of the first presidential debate was held today in Paynesville, suburb of the capital, Monrovia and four candidates of the 22 presidential candidates were in attendance including the Vice President of Liberia who is seeking to replace his boss after serving 12 years as Vice President.
Candidates attending the debate were, Mr Alexander Cumming,Jr, former Coco Cola executive, of Alternative National Congress, Vice President Joseph Boakai of Unity Party, businessman, Benoni Urey of the All Liberian Party, and Cllr Charles Brumskine of the Liberty Party.
The debate was organized by Deepening Democracy Coalition (DDC) but gave no reason why other candidates were absent from the debate including the Presidential candidate of the country’s leading opposition party, Coalition for Democratic Change, Senator George Weah.
